~ The term Cyclomancy, or “Circle Magic”, refers to the five-element creation and destruction cycles that Ffaenon uses as the symbolic roadmap to his subconscious and the magic born therein. His magic doesn’t deal in the physical elements, but in magic’s ethereal roots, the essences of life, which makes it a rare and controversial talent in the magical community. Ffaenon has used the eastern philosophy of the five elemental energies to construct his model on magic and the subconscious, the descriptions of which are as follows.
- Water - A consistent motion: Widely accepted as the “first” stage of the creation cycle, water energy represents the most malleable and casual aspects of our persona, trivial pursuits that are easily disturbed, but quickly stabilize in the absence of disruption. In the physical realm, water appears to be one of the most abundant types of energy, especially in emotions, but it doesn’t often gather in large amounts, as it is water’s nature to disperse until the forces directing it are balanced against one another.
- Wood - A rising strength: Wood energy is created through resistance from the outside world; a steady flow unbalanced by an obstacle creates pressure, which grows until it finds an outlet or the obstacle is swept away. That increasing pressure is the essence of wood energy, present in all living things as the instinct to overcome hardship. In the physical realm, wood is a reflexive energy, forming the precursor to retaliative emotions like anger and aggressiveness. Among magical energies, Wood is the strongest and most assertive, but only if it is given time to gather before it is released.
- Fire - A sudden dispersion: Where wood is the gathering and rising of energy, fire is the outward spread of its inevitable release. It is the most volatile of all elements. In the physical realm, fire is motion; it is the most conspicuous element in existence and has the greatest effect on living things, as it is the essence of fire that causes aging and decomposition, rusting and, of course, flames, which can be the most destructive of any elemental force. Emotions based in fire are explosive and short-lived, often leaving their users empty until the energy begins to gather in recovery.
- Earth - A gradual gathering: The outward burst of Fire’s motion leaves energy scattered and without direction, and it is the pull of Earth’s energy that draws these lingering traces together. Earth is a restorative power, but also the temperament of time, the drawing together and refining of the spirit that marks the unmatchable wisdom of experience. In the physical realm, Earth is the least assertive but the most resilient of all elements, and is often overlooked due to its indiscreet presence. Emotions based in earth are the strongest of convictions, drives capable of withstanding all but the strongest of deterrents.
- Metal - An intangible moment: The energy of Metal has been depicted as the unobtainable and otherworldly: in the world of emotions, Metal is thought; in the world of movement, it is stillness. Metal is the space before birth and after death, the immeasurable gap between one cycle and the next. In the realm of the physical, metal is representative of the very existence of magic and the supernatural, becoming noticeable only in fleeting glimpses as an essence of magical energy.
Each element exists in a plethora of forms, be they of the physical and tangible or subconscious and ethereal. Each is nothing without the others, as their very existence, the existence of all things, is made real only by the force of contrast it creates within the world. It is through these energies and their presence in all life that Ffaenon has become not a supernatural shaper or destroyer of balance, but perhaps even more human than mortals themselves.
Abilities:
- Spiritual Perception: For the magically inclined, the perception of magical forces is its own sixth sense; however, the mind naturally delegates this sense, which the body can’t interpret, to other senses, sometimes causing obscure visions or bizarre sensations when strong magical or personal essences draw close. For Ffaenon in particular, it is the tactile sense, touch, that is most closely connected to the ethereal realm. Though he may witness strange blurring or odd noises in the presence of magic, he more closely feels the energy of others as if they were swathes of heat or gentle pressures against his skin. These sensations are spread across his perception through a strong synesthesia, deeply immersing him in all the physical and spiritual activity in the space around him. At his highest, Ffaenon can touch a physical or spiritual presence with his eyes and feel it within every inch of his body; his sense of touch is so augmented by his natural magic that his ability to feel extends through objects that he touches, especially with his hands, and through the feel of energies given off by living creatures, he may discern the state of their own inner balance, interpreting emotions and weeding out strong intents such as violence or affection. The efficiency of these senses is based in his subconscious; they can dull if physical or mental activity disconnects him from his own emotions. Generally, one cannot generate a strong outward force while also taking in the energy of their surroundings, and this applies just as much to perception as any other magical activity.
~ Aura: Just as he may sense the presence of magic and emotion in others, Ffaenon is not above being sensed in a similar manner by other supernatural creatures. Ffaenon’s primary energy is metallic in nature: it feels almost empty, refined to such an extent that it seems to barely exist at all. It possesses no color, but can distort the air with a grainy, almost electrical texture; those with auditory inclinations might here a crackling, similar to static, while Ffaenon’s magic is strong. Contrarily, when he is at his softest, Ffaenon’s aura is warm and gentle, enough even to have a relaxing effect on mortals without spiritual senses. He makes no efforts to hide in these moments, but takes on a softened warmth in body and in energy, usually in response to another individual.- Water Branch - Hypnotism: Through his extended senses, Ffaenon is capable of tapping into another individual’s energy, tampering with their natural balance to disrupt and confuse the senses. This is Ffaenon’s most recently discovered and difficult spells to properly use, because the manipulation of energies takes place on the subconscious level; he may create certain sensations, such as the feeling of being watched, or direct an unknowing target’s attention to or away from some part of their perception, but he may not create true sensory signals without extensive time to dig into his target’s deeper spirit.
The extent of Ffaenon’s control is largely dependent on the strength of the connection between himself and his target, which tends to grow continuously the longer the two are exposed to one another. The bond is forged in attention; an unaware enemy has little to fear from this magic, but fearful, hateful, determined, or otherwise enthralled subjects open themselves to a greater degree of manipulation. Ffaenon can open an opponent’s mind to his magic by stimulating their senses, be it by deliberately making some sort of sound or attracting their eyes to a distinguished display. Mainly, the spell’s capabilities end in the slow induction of paranoia or similar inclinations, or tampering with an opponent’s perception of time, making an uneventful span of time seem to pass far faster than it has in reality. Physical sensations are limited to spectral touches or shallow noise, so insubstantial that the target may mistake it for their imagination, but even the small changes in an enemy’s ability to think clearly can be enough to change the tide of a battle.
~ Hypnotic Defenses: Because he is intimately familiar with his own flow of energy, attempts at manipulating his own perception are all but certain to fail. Mind-altering abilities open their users to Ffaenon’s own magic, which may invoke a competition of wills or merely cancel one another out. - Earth Branch - Invisibility: Using the same basic concepts as his hypnotic abilities, Ffaenon has learned the secret to one of the oldest known applications of magic. By drawing his own energy inward and behind the flowing energies of his surroundings, Ffaenon’s presence becomes so insubstantial that the mind doesn’t register his existence without close inspection. His physical form isn’t changed, but unless an observer goes over every feature of a setting in detail, he won’t stand out of a background setting, making him essentially invisible regardless of his choice of hiding place. In some cases, such as if his form is blatantly obvious, discovery cannot be avoided, but on most cases, his form and energy become all but undetectable, even if he chooses to move while invoking his power.
- Fire Branch - Healing: This ability’s title doesn’t refer to the healing of physical wounds, but those of a more delicate nature. By releasing his aura around another living creature, Ffaenon may assist in the rebalancing of internal energies, repairing spiritual and psychological damage and easing tension, relaxing the mind and body and unbinding the spirit from any sort of supernatural tampering. This process is rather weak and requires the subject to be willing to accept his help. The more they are able to relax, the faster they may reap the benefit of its effects.
- Water Branch - Hypnotism: Through his extended senses, Ffaenon is capable of tapping into another individual’s energy, tampering with their natural balance to disrupt and confuse the senses.
- Body Activation: Over the time he has spent exerting his own energy through physical and spiritual activity, Ffaenon’s body has become as a conduit of magical energy, which has done a great deal to augment his strength and physical prowess. Though he is by no means superhuman, his physical strength can match those of stronger and heavier builds and his endurance, when stimulated, can far outlast those of the same opponents. This is considered Wood magic and is based in the strength of Ffaenon’s determination, confidence, and positive Yang energy.
When Ffaenon enters a combat situation, especially one he holds strong feelings towards, energy from the surrounding area and the deeper reaches of his spirit begins to draw itself within his physical body; any caster with keen perception would notice this quite quickly. In the nature of wood energy, this upward flow does not cease as long as the stigma of battle remains in Ffaenon’s heart. The physical energy continuously grows, causing the above augmentation to his strength and reflexes, dulling his pain, and preventing him from tiring, but it does little to shoulder the physical strain on his body. After a battle ends or loses its intensity, aches and pains may wrack overworked muscles or his body as a whole may need time to rest and recover before partaking in another bout of combat. During such times, it is a characteristic of Ffaenon’s skin to become hot as the stored energy within his body is released; this poses little danger to his health, but is a clear sign to those present in the wake of his exertion. - Abjuration: Abjuration is the magic of metal, Ffaenon’s Yin element, and is the only magic that draws its power from the conscious mind. Metal is magic itself, but also its absence, the power of consciousness that is the inverse of spiritual power; it is the energy of emptiness, of absence, and has the power to nullify magic, making it the most intimidating of all powers in the magical community. The extent of its applications, as well as the intricacies of its control, are still obscure in Ffaenon’s mind, but it has become the essence of what makes him a warlock, more than mortal, and is the subject of his newest and most intense studies.
- Magic Sealing: In the presence of magic, Ffaenon can extend his aura over the threshold of another caster’s control, disrupting the physical manifestation of magical energies. This is not the same as suppressing magic; an enemy caster would merely find that there is no energy to draw upon to cast their spells, making external and physical spells impossible to cast. This has no effect on spells that have already been cast, such as a summoned fire, but any magical properties it may possess are quickly nullified.
- Dispelling Strike: Specifically focused on a strike with the palm of his hand, as per his own preference, Ffaenon may send a destructive burst of metallic energy through his opponent’s body. This has little effect on the body itself, but the target’s spiritual cycles are greatly disrupted, making any form of attempted magic malfunction and often causing confusion as a side-effect of scrambled inhibitions. Effects of such a strike vary from person to person, but usually last close to a minute before the target begins to regain control of their own energies.
- Banishment: Geared specifically toward spiritual entities, this projection of energy forces away creatures of magical or spiritual bearing, disallowing them from entering its field of influence for the duration of its projection. As with other forms of anti-magic, it is not a disputable power struggle; the realm of the ethereal seems to not exist in the area of metal’s influence, including any spiritual or magical presences therein.
- Mettalum Manifestus: The act of manifesting the energy of metal into the physical realm. Unlike fire or similar elements, the essence of metal is invisible; it is as an expression of force without form, solid, but all but nonexistent. Manifesting metal is extremely difficult and can only be achieved in short burst by one with as little experience as Ffaenon, but the energy itself is capable of creating strong barriers or waves of powerful force to push away enemy attacks. Once physically manifested, metal loses its anti-magic properties, becoming a force of pure physical resiliency; its ability to pierce and break is dependent on Ffaenon’s strength of intent, but its force is usually broad and pushes objects rather than destroy them.
The magic of metal is antagonistic to all other forms of magic, as implied in its applications, meaning that Ffaenon’s other spells do not function properly when used at the same time as his Abjuration. The only exception is his wood energy’s Body Activation, which, being Ffaenon’s Yang energy, can overcome its nullifying effects. Because the two abilities are opposite each other, should his body activation be overused, the excess of energy will begin to interfere with his use of Abjuration, making the majority of his spells more difficult or even impossible to control.

Personality: This is one of two sections that staff will be hard on. Your character's personality is one of two things that can give other members a view of how your character is, so at the absolute minimum, you must give a basic rundown of your characters psyche. What are they like on the inside, caring people, cruel, slightly ambivalent, whatever, it's your character. You must write something for this that matches your history, considering personalities are forged by life experience.
